 Keeping Healthy

A Healthy Start

At Norwood Green Infant and Nursery School we believe that it is important for children to have a healthy and balanced lifestyle. This enables them to do their best, learn and achieve. By supporting healthy lifestyles and emotional health and well-being, we are aiming to continue to raise standards and improve levels of pupil achievement.

To help us raise standards we ask that parents assist us in ensuring children have a good bedtime routine and healthy eating habits. The NHS website has a guide on how many hours a child should be sleeping from babies up to 16 years.

It is also important that children with a packed lunch have a nutritious and healthy meal; fizzy drinks, sweets and chocolate are not an acceptable choice. Due to the high number of children with nut allergies, we are a nut free school. For further information click here.

Children are encouraged not only at school, but also at home to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. For ideas and activities to promote Active Families click here.  For more activities please click on the blue links below.

Medical Need

If your child has an allergy or medical need it is important that the school is notified so adjustments or a healthcare plan can be put into place. We have a full-time Welfare Assistant who oversees children's welfare, medical and dietary needs and provides first aid treatment, when required.

The school is not allowed to give medication to children except in special circumstances. In these cases a parent will need to provide a written request. If approved, a healthcare plan will be created. For further information, please read our Administration of Medicine Policy.

Illnesses

If your child is unwell and not fit to attend school, you must inform the school office.

Please see our Attendance & Punctuality page for further information. Any vomiting or diarrhoea should be given a clear 48 hour period of absence to avoid the spread of viruses.

Useful Websites

The London Borough of Hounslow' Public Health team are offering a new National Healthy Start scheme aimed at low income families with a child under 4 and/or expecting a baby (from 10th week of pregnancy), to help them access free healthy food via a prepaid store card.

They can also get free vitamins. The eligibility criteria are very similar to the free 2 year old nursery places.  Please click on the link Hounslow Healthy Start Scheme.
